A crane is a machine that is used for lifting, lowering, and moving heavy loads in construction sites, warehouses, and other different industries. They are very supportive machines when work is involved at a higher height. Although there are various types of cranes, there are common basic elements of a crane that enable it to perform its work effectively and they include;
Boom
The boom is the most recognizable part of a crane, and it is a steel arm of the crane that holds the loads when they are being raised or lowered on the ground. Generally, the role of a boom is to position, lift and move the loads. It is important to ensure the boom is always strong when renting or buying a crane hence partnering with a leading crane dealer such as the Van Adrighemis important. The 2 main types of booms are lattice and telescopic. The telescopic booms utilize hydraulic cylinders to extend or fold and reach the targeted location.
The Jib
The jib is a secondary arm that is mounted horizontally toward the end of the boom. Its main purpose is to provide support to the boom through a fixed hoist thus maximizing its productivity. The jib cranes are normally attached to a pillar with a flexible hoist, chains, and wires that enhance efficiency in the movement of materials when loading and offloading.
Hoist and hook
The hoist is a system of a wire, rope, or chain that is designed from the base to the top of the crane where a hook is located. The major role of the hoist is to ensure lifting and raising the load. Hoists are powered electrically, manually, or by use of pressure. On the other hand, the function of the hook is to support the loads and prevent them from falling.
Outriggers
The outriggers work hand in hand with counterweights by providing adequate support to the crane. They offset the load over a large surface area that is being lifted and creates balancing thus protecting the cranes from leaning either side. Outriggers and counterweights use hydraulics, beam, and the pad to create stability during the lifting process.
Hydraulic pump
The crane uses a hydraulic system. All the power that moves hydraulic components originates from the hydraulic pump. It operates closely with the Rotex gear by creating a displacement of pressure that established is by a gear pump and it is directed to the crane.
Rotex gear
The Rotex gear is a part that enables crane rotation either in the right or left and also horizontally and vertically. It is built below the operator’s cab.
Although there are various components of a crane, the operating system of this machine is computerized, and all the parts are interdependent. Therefore, it is advisable to check the efficacy of every part of the crane when renting or buying and prevent any hazards that cause risks. Moreover, having a quality crane will provide maximum productivity at work, hence realizing an improved profit.
